IF Magazine By Ross Jacobs November 2000 Modelled on eighties classics like Growing Pains and Saved by the Bell, and combining grotesque humour with boundary-pushing subject matter, I Can't Even Think Straight! is a self -proclaimed "anti-sitcom", a kind of next generation Southpark, which is slowley but surely building a cult following, writes Ross Jacobs. Deconstructing notions of identity and sexuality has been a long term project of creator Dean Francis, whose folio of often controversial short films has won him international acclaim as 'the bad boy of queer cinema'. "It's not a conscious thing" Dean insists, "I just want to tell stories that interest me." Adopting a "do it anyway" approach, Francis and his production team, jj splice, set out to shoot independently and self-distribute on the internet. "The internet has been integral to every stage of this project's development" says Francis, whose website jjsplice .au ; attracts 60, 000 visitors a month. The screenplays were published on the website, and expressions of interest were invited. jj splice was inundated by emails from actors and crew anxious to be involved, willing to work for free to realise this fresh vision.

Pitocin side effects postpartum

Effect of a mixture of pitocin and pitressin. As pituitrin contains 10 units of pitressin and 10 units of pitocin per cc., the mixture used for injection was prepared so as to contain an equal number of units of each constituent, the amount injected being then adjusted so as to contain 2-5 units of pitocin and 2-5 units of pitressin. Later it was found more convenient to inject the animal in one flank with the necessary amount of pitocin and in the other with the pitressin. No difference in the results obtained for the two methods of administering the extracts was detected and posture.
We use information from external sources to estimate our significant sales discounts and allowances. Our estimates of inventory at the wholesalers are based on: The actual and projected prescription demand-based sales for our products and historical inventory experience; Our analysis of third-party information, including written and oral information obtained from all of the major wholesalers with respect to their inventory levels and sell-through to customers, and third-party market research data; and Our internal information. The inventory information received from wholesalers is a product of their record-keeping process and excludes inventory held by intermediaries to whom they sell, such as retailers and hospitals. We receive information from IMS Health, Inc., a supplier of market research to the pharmaceutical industry, which we use to project the prescription demand-based sales for our pharmaceutical products. We also use information from external sources to identify prescription trends and patient demand. We receive inventory pipeline data directly from the three major US wholesalers McKesson Corp. Introduction Despite the fact that tobacco smoking is a widely recognized health hazard and a major cause of preventable mortality, smoking remains prevalent in our society. While there has been a decrease in the incidence of smoking in the general population, the percentage of female smokers has increased considerably Health Canada, 2003 ; . What is even more troubling is the incidence of smoking among young women. A recent survey of high school students in southwestern Ontario revealed that 36.2% of teenage girls smoke Cohen et al., 2003 ; and a study from the UK reports that, at the age of 15 years, 33% of girls are regular smokers Augood et al., 1998 ; . In urban medically indigent populations, we and others have reported that poor compliance with insulin treatment is the most common precipitating cause, accounting for more than half of all DKA admissions 28, 3133 ; . Most patients with poor compliance are younger, are less critically ill, have lower disease severity scores, and have a lower rate of complications and mortality than non-DKA patients admitted to the ICU 11, 31, 34 ; . Although these patients should be candidates for early discharge, the length of hospitalization in mild DKA has been reported to be similar to patients admitted with moderate or severe DKA 10, 34 ; . In addition, although no clear benefits have been shown in treating DKA patients in the ICU compared with stepped-down units or general medicine wards 10, 35 ; , the majority of patients with DKA are admitted to the ICU 10 12 ; . Our study indicates that patients with uncomplicated DKA could be safely treated with SC aspart insulin every 1 or 2 non-ICU settings. We acknowledge several limitations in our study, including a relatively small number of patients and the fact that we excluded patients with hypovolemic shock, comatose state, acute myocardial ischemia, congestive heart failure, endstage renal or hepatic failure, anasarca, and pregnancy. Although the administration of frequent insulin injections may be difficult in some institutions because of the shortage of nursing staff on regular wards, it is important to note that restrictions on the intensity of nursing care, our protocol was well accepted by the nursing staff. It is important to notice that restrictions on the intensity of nursing care in our institution are consistent with the nursing care available in general hospitals in the Southeast 31 ; . Before the completion of this study, because of hospital regulations in our institution, patients with DKA were admitted to the ICU to receive treatment with IV insulin. The results of this study enabled us to revise our admission policy, allowing us to treat patients with uncomplicated DKA in general wards and intermediate care units. Our results indicate that treatment of DKA with SC insulin analogs every 1 or 2 represents a safe and effective alternative to treatment with IV regular insulin. In agreement with our previous reports 11, 13, 34 ; , this study indicates that patients with uncomplicated DKA, under and prialt.

The LGO of the RIVM performed analytical studies on products containing Ephedra herba on the Dutch market at the request of the Dutch Health Care Inspectorate IGZ ; and the Inspectorate of Health Protection, Commodities and Veterinary Public Health KvW ; . In total, 202 samples from approximately 135 products were examined in the period 1993 to 1999. These products were sold as dietary supplements and so-called smart drugs. The labelling and their sale environment e.g. health food stores, smart shops ; suggested that the products were of natural, herbal origin. The principle purpose of these studies was to assess the safety risk of these products, considering that Ephedra herba contains ephedrine EP ; alkaloids. These active substances may have pronounced effects on the cardiovascular and central nervous systems, depending on the doses taken. Another purpose was to examine whether the products were indeed of herbal origin, i.e. whether Ephedra herba was indeed used in their production as stated on the label, and not a synthetic substitute. Criteria from the literature were used to assess safety and quality. The investigations consisted of three separate experimental studies in the periods 1993-1996, 1997-1999, and 1999 in which the LGO received samples from governmental institutes. These samples were labelled 'Ephedra herba' or a comparable name ; and or 'from natural sources'. The analysis consisted of determining the identity and assay of the EP alkaloids by thin-layer chromatography TLC ; and high-performance liquid chromatography with diode-array detection HPLC-DAD ; . The samples for studies 2 and 3 121 samples ; were assessed according to quality and safety criteria; and those for study 1, according to the quality criteria only. Most of the samples of studies 2 and 3 contained unacceptably large amounts of EP alkaloids, and 93 of these samples did not meet the safety criteria, including draft safety requirements of the Food and Drug Administration FDA ; . In addition, 36 contained an effect-enhancing substance coffeine ; , and 28 of these 36 samples both failed to meet the criteria and contained an effectenhancing substance, so the risk for adverse events was potentiated. The results also show that samples both 'from herbal sources' and 'not from herbal sources' were encountered and that the total amount of EP alkaloids varied from product to product, as well as within a product. This project shows that there is a need for improvement in view of public health and pitocin. Perhaps because pitocin is given continuously oxytocin, the natural hormone produced by the pituitary gland is released in bursts ; contractions are often harder and more painful than when pitocin is not given and primaquine.
Pitocin inevitably makes the labor experience more high tech and may preclude some anticipated comfort measures , such as standing in the shower, getting in the tub, or walking the halls.

I begin to look at the landscape not with the eye of a mere spectator but with an artist's eye" from his "The Educational Value of Art, " 1943, as given in Verene, 1979, pp. 214215 ; . Art cannot be received in a passive way; Cassirer writes that "we have to construct, to build up these forms, in order to be aware of them, to see and feel them." It is this dynamic character of aesthetic experience that "gives to art its special place in human culture and makes it an essential and indispensable element in the system of liberal education" pp. 214215 ; . A growing body of work in philosophy and literary criticism is addressing the nature of the individual's complex responses to a work of art. See Bruner, 1986; Nussbaum, 1990; and Fleischacker, 1999. Nussbaum claims that great literature is better suited than philosophy itself to conveying "the value and beauty of choosing humanly well" 1990, p. 142 ; . Because literature actively involves us in the inner lives of characters that must make judgments in the face of complex circumstances and daunting uncertainties, we come to appreciate the difference between judging poorly and judging well. Like Nussbaum, Fleischacker describes aesthetic judgment as a complex skill that bridges the emotions and the understanding and is grounded in perception of the particulars of a situation. He argues that it is closely connected to both moral judgment and the practical reasoning that individuals use in interpreting their life experiences. He claims that these faculties, taken together, are the means by which individuals most fully express their freedom and individuality and posture
